Radiology Students, Staff Support Charity Walk

Several students and faculty members from the ��ɬ�� Salem radiology program participated in the recent Panerathon, a 10 K/2 mile walk/run in Youngstown to raise money for the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center.

All proceeds from the event support the Joanie’s Promise Fund at the Humility of Mary Health Partners Foundation. Joanie’s Promise ensures that every woman in the Mahoning Valley is “aware of, able to get to, and is welcome” at the JACBCC. Breast screening expenses are covered for any woman who qualifies financially and the fund also provides transportation if needed.

This year’s event was held Aug. 24 at the Covelli Centre. Representing the Salem Campus were students Joe Nemcik, Sarah Reich, Misty Williamson, Erica Kotel, Lisa Jurus, Krista Paolucci, Angela Himes (and daughter), Candice Dickson and Jessica Noble (and sons).

Participating radiology faculty members included Sheri McCormick, Kelly Dragomir, Jan Gibson and Margie Iagulli, along with Mary Lou Ferranto from
the nursing program.

Kent Salem Graduates Leading Ohio’s Cancer Battles with Proton Therapy

In July 2016, Jill Cofojohn became the first radiation therapist in Ohio to use proton therapy to treat a cancer patient. This noteworthy event took place at University Hospital’s Seidman Cancer Center in Cleveland where she worked as the advanced lead radiation therapist.

Nine years later, Cofojohn – a ��ɬ�� Salem graduate – helped introduce this technology in Columbus where she now serves as the lead proton therapist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. There are only three such sites in Ohio and 46 throughout the United States.

East Liverpool ADN Students Receive White Coats During First-ever Ceremony

The ADN program on the East Liverpool Campus held its inaugural White Coat Ceremony during which 44 nursing students received white coats that will help establish their “professional identity” and coincides with the beginning of their clinical training.
