RJ Mitte played Walt, Jr., the son of the cancer-stricken science teacher-turned-drug manufacturer, on the Emmy-winning AMC drama Breaking Bad.

Mitte will be the second speaker of the 26th season of 青年涩导航 at Stark鈥檚 Featured Speakers Series on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m., at the Conference Center.

All Featured Speakers Series programs are free and open to the public; however, tickets are required. Tickets are now available at the Main Hall Information Desk on the 青年涩导航 Stark campus.

An actor and activist, Mitte advocates internationally for raising awareness about bullying and of equality and diversity, particularly for the disabled, in their chosen careers. Mitte鈥檚 talk, 鈥淥vercoming Adversity: Turning a Disadvantage to an Advantage,鈥 will be based on how he overcame his own disability to become a successful actor and model.

Like his character on Breaking Bad, Mitte has cerebral palsy, although his is a milder form of the disease. Beyond his acting, Mitte is involved with several organizations that raise awareness of these issues. He is the Youth Spokesperson for the National Disability Institute鈥檚 Real Economic Impact Tour, which works to improve the financial situation of low-income persons with disabilities. Currently, he is working with the PACER鈥檚 National Center for Bullying Prevention on a nationwide campaign designed to educate those who witness bullying, leveraging peer-to-peer support. The PACER Center, based in Minneapolis, Minn., is a parent training and information center for families of children and youth with all disabilities from birth to young adults.

UNCHAINED Fashion Show Raises Awareness of Human Trafficking

Fashion shows usually mean glamour, beauty and elegance. For nearly 400 青年涩导航 at Stark students, faculty, staff and Canton community members, this concept now carries a greater meaning. In early September, an on-campus casting call for female models attracted 21 青年涩导航 Stark students. Before the ladies were fitted with exotic dresses designed by Korto Momulu, a Project Runway season five competitor, the coordinators of the UNCHAINED Fashion Team discussed the importance of the show for which they had volunteered.

Flu Shot Clinic on Thursday, Oct. 8

青年涩导航 at Stark will host a Flu Shot Clinic on Thursday, Oct. 8 from 7:30 - 11:30 a.m. in the Recreation & Wellness Center. This flu shot clinic is open to all students, faculty, staff and dependents.

Unchained Fashion Show Raises Awareness of Human Trafficking

青年涩导航 at Stark is partnering with the UNCHAINED Fashion Team from Columbus, Ohio, to bring awareness to human trafficking, one of the world鈥檚 fastest-growing illegal enterprises. The UNCHAINED Fashion Show will take place on Monday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. in the 青年涩导航 Stark Conference Center, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. The event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.

Music Mastermind Troy Carter Kicks Off 25th Anniversary Season of Featured Speakers Series

青年涩导航 at Stark will celebrate the silver anniversary season of the popular Featured Speakers Series with an impressive lineup of personalities. The 25th season begins with music industry strategist Troy Carter. His presentation, The Convergence of Tech, Culture and Hustle, will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Timken Great Hall, located in 青年涩导航 Stark鈥檚 Conference Center, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township.

青年涩导航 at Stark is proud to host the Gallery 6000 exhibit, entitled Vista Botanica.

Events to Honor Constitution Day on September 17

青年涩导航 at Stark will present an informational lecture on Thursday, Sept. 17 to honor Constitution Day, which recognizes the formation and adoption of the United States Constitution and all U.S. citizens, whether by birth or naturalization.  Following a flag ceremony, held at the campus flagpole near the Frank Avenue entrance, a lecture led by a 青年涩导航 Stark professor, will take place in the Library, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. These events are free and open to the public. 

Blue and Gold Thursdays at 青年涩导航 Stark

Blue and Gold Pride Days are back at 青年涩导航! 青年涩导航 faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the university are encouraged to promote university spirit and pride by wearing blue and gold colors. 青年涩导航 introduced Blue and Gold Pride Days last fall as a way to unite members of the university community and promote 青年涩导航 pride. The tradition continues at 青年涩导航 this fall, beginning Friday, Sept. 4, which happens to be College Colors Day, and continues through the school year.

Auditions for Almost, Maine on September 8 & 9

青年涩导航 at Stark Theatre has announced open auditions for the first theatrical production of the season, Almost, Maine, written by John Cariani and directed by 青年涩导航 Stark Assistant Professor of Theatre and Theatre Director Brian Newberg. Auditions are open to everyone, including students and community persons.

青年涩导航 Stark Brings Chinese Students to Canton

Canton, Ohio is the global destination of a lifetime for 11 students from Shenzhen, China, marking a first for a 青年涩导航 regional campus. On August 31, the Stark Campus in Jackson Township will be the first of the 青年涩导航鈥檚 seven regional campuses to reach across the world and partner with an international university, China鈥檚 Shenzhen Polytechnic, hosting students and a faculty member for a semester.
